Luminescent Monolayer
A turbulent partnership exists between photoluminescence and metal surfaces that can either enhance or quench the emission. In the case of gold surfaces, photoluminescence is preserved either when using multi-layers or long linking ligands to decouple the molecule from the surface. In a recent contribution, we proposed and characterized a Mo-based cluster that retains its multicomponent red-NIR emission despite being in direct contact with a crystalline Au(001) gold surface.
