I study the physics and mechanics of granular media and other
disordered materials. My main research subjects are granular flows and
stability (and loss of stability) in granular media. I work in
discrete media group of the Institut de Physique de Rennes.
News:
- January 2013 The paper "Effect of confinement on dense packings of rigid frictionless spheres and polyhedra" has been published in Phys Rev E (Dec. 2012 volume). We studied numerically and model the effect of confining sidewalls on packings of frictionless grains.
The paper can be downloaded here (Phys Rev E) or as a preprint here (arxiv)
- December 2012 New affiliation! I am now working at the IFSTTAR which belongs to the LUNAM University (Université Nantes Angers Le Mans).

- January 2012 We studied "booming sand" by means of numerical simulations.
Our result suggest that the grain surface properties are very important to the phenomenon of singing dunes, and supports the hypothesis that the grains must have an external layer of silica gel that is softer than the grain interior.
This has been published in Phys. Rev. E: follow the link
- December 2011 A new article Gravity driven shallow granular flows down flat frictional channels written with N. Brodu and R. Delannay is available on arxiv.
Abstract :
Granular flows down flat inclined channels are commonly used in the
industry. In spite of their practical importance, they have not been
investigated in details yet. Using DEM numerical simulations we find
that stationary states occur for an unexpectedly large range of angles
of inclination. We report previously unseen stationary regimes, with
secondary rolls and with a supported dense slab on top of a granular
gas. These are stabilized by the lateral boundaries at high angles.
- September 2011 Want to see experiments on granular media
? Visit us at the "Fete de la Science" Esplanade du Général de Gaulle,
Rennes (October 15-16, 2011 from 14:00 to 19:00).
- June 2011 An article on our work is published in Science Ouest (in french)
- December 2010 A new facility is available in our lab: a bucket elevator.
- October 2010 The article Experimental evidence of ageing and slow restoration of the weak-contact configuration in tilted 3D granular packings has been accepted for publication in Journal of statistical mechanics. Follow this link to arxiv for the preprint version.
- July 2010 The article Electrically induced tunable cohesion in granular systems has been accepted for publication in JOurnal of statistical mechanics. Follow this link to arxiv for the preprint version.
- June 2010 The ANR project 2010 "STABINGRAM" has been accepted.
Stabingram, for "STABility loss IN GRAnular Media" is a project funded
by ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) which aims at exploring the
conditions for destabilization and reasons for stability in
unconsolidated granular media by different means, including acoustics.
The main partners are the FAST laboratory (Orsay), IPR (Rennes),
Géosciences Rennes, and LAUM (Le Mans).
