Rennes


Rennes is situated 350 km west of Paris in the region of Brittany. It is France's tenth largest city, with a population of over 200 000 inhabitants, of which 58 000 are students in higher education. There are two universities, several "grandes écoles" and a variety of public and private research centres, particularly for telecommunications.

Rennes is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Daily direct flights link Rennes to Paris (Roissy and Orly), Strasbourg and Lyon, while there is on average one TGV every hour to Paris Montparnasse (travel time between 2 and 2½ hours). There are also 4 TGV a day between Rennes and Lille, stopping at Roissy Charles de Gaulle terminal 2 (journey time Rennes-CDG about 3 hours). Rennes also lies at the intersection of several motorways linking Brittany with the east (Paris), the south and the north-east. These routes also connect Rennes to the Channel ports of Roscoff, Saint-Malo and Cherbourg.
