Consider the maps of a house, my parents' house, about 2,000 matchsticks, glue, three summers of patience (1994 to 1996) and a little dose of madness. Put all these stuffs together. Mix well, and obtain a first scale model. The scale model of my parents' house was a good exercise to get used to the difficulties of this activity. It was built from the maps drawn by my father at the scale 1/50.
